Statement from the National Congress of Chinese Canadians (Pacific Region)
全加华人联会太平洋区强烈谴责台湾地区新领导人赖清德在5月20日的登场演说中所采取的极不负责任的言行。就像台湾地区前领导人马英九先生所说，赖清德的言论可能给台湾地区（”台湾”）带来动荡不稳定及不可预测的挑战。这并且会严重破坏了台海的和平与稳定。
The National Congress of Chinese Canadians (Pacific Region) strongly condemns the highly irresponsible remarks and actions taken by the new leader of the Taiwan region, Mr. Lai Ching-te, during his inaugural speech on May 20. As former Taiwan region leader Mr. Ma Ying-jeou mentioned, Lai Ching-te's statements could bring turbulence, instability, and unpredictable challenges to the Taiwan region (“Taiwan”). Lai’s actions will severely undermine peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait.
赖清德在演说中称与中国互不隶属，他并赤裸裸地想推动所谓的“两国论”，意图谋独挑衅，公然挑战国际社会普遍接受的一个中国原则。这一言论不仅无视了联合国第2758号决议所确认的中华人民共和国是代表中国的唯一合法政府的事实，也严重违背了两岸和平发展的基本共识——“九二共识”。
In his speech, Lai Ching-te absurdly stated that the Taiwan region and mainland China "are not affiliated with each other." He blatantly attempts to push his so-called "two-state agenda" with the intent to provoke mainland China and seek independence, openly challenging the internationally accepted One China principle. Lai’s statement not only disregards UN Resolution 2758, which resolutely recognizes the People's Republic of China as the only legitimate government representing China, but it also impudently violates the basic consensus reached between the Taiwan region and mainland China for peaceful development across the Taiwan Strait—the "1992 Consensus."
“九二共识”是两岸关系的定海神针，是保证台海和平稳定的基石。赖清德的言行，无视这一基本共识，肆意推行“台独”主张，必将引发不可预测的挑战和动荡，为台湾带来深重的不稳定因素。在这个演变下，赖清德一边推行“新两国论”，一边假装愿意对话，这是自相矛盾的。这样的行为，不仅是对大陆的挑衅，也是对全体台湾人民利益的严重伤害。对话的前提是相互尊重和诚意，而赖清德的做法显然是缺乏这两者。
The "1992 Consensus" is the anchor of cross-strait relations and the cornerstone for ensuring peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait. Lai Ching-te's actions, ignoring this basic consensus and willfully promoting "Taiwan independence," will undoubtedly provoke unpredictable challenges and turmoil, bringing significant instability to Taiwan. In this context, Lai's simultaneous promotion of the "new two-state theory" while pretending to be open to dialogue with mainland China is contradictory. Such behavior is not only a provocation against mainland China but also seriously harms the interests of all residents of Taiwan. The premise of dialogue is mutual respect and sincerity, both of which Lai's approach clearly lacks.
赖清德在孙中山先生的画像前宣誓上任台湾地区新领导人，却公然违背中山先生的“一中”原则。中山先生曾明确指出：“统一是中国全体国民的希望。能够统一，全国人民便享福；不能统一，便要受害。”赖清德在520的行为，不仅具讽刺性，而且自相矛盾。
Lai Ching-te took his oath as the new leader of the Taiwan region in front of the portrait of Dr. Sun Yat-sen, yet he openly violated Dr. Sun Yat-sen's "One China" principle. Dr. Sun Yat-sen clearly stated, "Unification is the hope of all Chinese people. If we can unify, all Chinese people will be happy; if we cannot unify, the Chinese people will suffer." Lai's speech and actions on May 20 are not only ironic but also self-contradictory.
我们海外华人深知，台湾作为中国领土的一部分，承载着中华民族的重要使命。我们不希望看到外国势力利用台湾成为棋子，使得台海冲突升级，同胞受到不必要的伤害和困扰。作为海外华人我们关心台湾同胞和平稳定发展，幸福生活。因此，我们更加期待两岸关系能够和平发展，实现两岸共同繁荣和发展。
We overseas Chinese understand that Taiwan, as part of Chinese territory under one nation, carries an important mission of unification for the Chinese nation. We do not want to see foreign forces use Taiwan as a pawn, escalating cross-strait conflicts and causing unnecessary harm and distress to our compatriots. As overseas Chinese, we care about the peaceful and stable development and the well-being of our Taiwanese compatriots. Therefore, we hope for even more peaceful development in cross-strait relations, achieving common prosperity and development for both sides.
在此，我们呼吁台湾当局认清形势，回归一个中国原则，尊重“九二共识”。只有这样，才能真正实现两岸的和平稳定发展，才能为台湾同胞创造一个安定、繁荣的未来。共同努力，为中华民族的全面复兴齐心协力，共建共荣。
We call on the Taiwan region authorities to awaken and recognize the situation, come to grips with the One China principle, and respect the "1992 Consensus." Only in this way can true peace and stable development across the Taiwan Strait be achieved, creating a stable and prosperous future for our Taiwanese compatriots. Let us work together for the comprehensive rejuvenation of the Chinese nation, and jointly build and share in its prosperity.
此外，值得注意的是，民进党在立法委员选举中的得票率仅为33.98%。这表明台湾的多数选民并不支持赖清德所代表的民进党路线。他的行为不仅与台湾多数民意相悖，也未能体现真正的民主精神。
Additionally, it is noteworthy that the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) received only 33.98% of the vote in the Taiwan region’s legislative election. This indicates that the majority of Taiwanese voters do not support the path represented by Lai Ching-te and the DPP. His actions not only go against the majority opinion of the people in Taiwan but also fail to embody the true spirit of democracy.
最后，我们希望国际社会能够认清赖清德及其背后势力的真实面目，坚决反对任何形式的“台独”言行，不要给台湾带来灾难性后果。中国大陆和台湾地区的分歧是属于同一个中国的内政。不要低估中国维护国土完整的能力及决心。中华民族的伟大复兴是不可阻挡的历史潮流。我们呼吁国际社会鼓励两岸和平对话，自行解决问题，不要干预。两岸通过对话和合作解决分歧，避免任何形式的挑衅和冲突。只有通过共同努力，才能实现台海的长期和平与稳定，为地区和全球的繁荣稳定作出积极贡献。
Finally, we underscore our message to the international community to recognize the true nature of Lai Ching-te and the forces behind him, to resolutely oppose any form of "Taiwan independence" rhetoric and actions to prevent disastrous consequences for Taiwan. The differences between mainland China and the Taiwan region are internal affairs of one China. Do not underestimate China's ability and determination to safeguard its territorial integrity. The great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation is an unstoppable historical trend. We call on the international community to encourage peaceful dialogue across the Taiwan Strait, the Taiwan region, and mainland China to solve issues between themselves, and refrain from interference. Only through joint efforts can long-term peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait be achieved, contributing positively to regional and global prosperity and stability.
