1. Origin: A Hindu Worship Ritual
While yoga is not a religion, this ancient Eastern practice is mentioned in sacred Hindu scriptures (such as the Bhagavad Gita). For example, there is a pose where the legs are crossed behind the head called Sun Salutation (a salutation to the sun god), which is actually a ritual of worship to a Hindu deity. Yoga generally begins with Sun Salutation (Surya Namaskar), but Christians worship the Creator, only the eternal God, not their created being. Jesus answered, “The most important is, ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’(Mark 12:29-30, ESV). Practicing yoga involves various physical, mental, and spiritual techniques, including breath control, postures, relaxation, chanting, and meditation. When we practice yoga, it empties our minds and guides us into a state of "no-thought." This is the most dangerous aspect of yoga; it unknowingly opens a pathway for Satan, allowing evil spirits to inhabit the body. The scripture says,“When the unclean spirit has gone out of a person, it passes through waterless places seeking rest, and finding none it says, ‘I will return to my house from which I came.’And when it comes, it finds the house swept and put in order. Then it goes and brings seven other spirits more evil than itself, and they enter and dwell there. And the last state of that person is worse than the first.” (Luke 11:24-26, ESV)
2. A Christian's Testimony: People report that yoga helps them lose weight, relieves pain, and provides an overall sense of well-being; however, few discuss the possibility of evil spirits entering the body. Christians must be careful! Don't assume that believing in Jesus will prevent demonic possession; every sin creates an opening. From what I know, a few believers, after practicing yoga only once or twice, have opened a path for evil spirits, binding themselves to demonic spirits, allowing them to infiltrate, harm their health, and devour their souls.
I started doing yoga to relieve shoulder pain; over time, I practiced yoga daily and talked about it constantly. Yoga permeated my life; I even practiced it while doing daily chores to control my breathing. My shoulder pain eased somewhat, but never completely disappeared; my body looked good, but gradually became bloated—not from fat, but from swelling. I spent a lot of time and money on yoga and consulting doctors.
Later, I wanted to follow Jesus Christ, but I couldn't stop doing yoga for 3-4 hours every day; the more I wanted to follow Christ, the angrier I became; this was because an evil spirit had entered me, trying its best to prevent me from believing in the Lord. After the brothers and sisters in the church prayed for me, the influence of yoga gradually weakened, and I agreed to give it up forever. Even so, I still couldn't concentrate on reading the Bible. Once, when the pastor prayed for me, I felt an evil spirit leave; this truly awakened me, and I thoroughly confessed my sins to Jesus Christ, repented, and began to worship the Lord in spirit and in truth.
3. The Pitfalls of Yoga
A yoga teacher instructs students to enhance their spirituality through various postures, breathing techniques, chanting, relaxation, and meditation, believing this to be a pursuit of spiritual growth. However, behind this seemingly harmonious practice lies the worship of Eastern mysticism (Hindu deities), unknowingly opening one's heart to other spirits. These spirits are not from gods, but rather evil spirits, leading people down a path of destruction.
If you experience out-of-body experiences during yoga practice, it means an evil spirit has entered your heart:
The following is a YouTube video showing a woman experiencing out-of-body experiences during yoga practice, feeling smug and believing she has entered a very high level of the spiritual realm, unaware that she has been controlled by an evil spirit!
