Chinese Help Lines volunteers are required to receive intensive training in order to provide quality service to the community. Ongoing training and education are developed to maintain high service quality. All volunteers must be 19 years of age or older and pass a criminal record check. There is a $110 (S.U.C.C.E.S.S. member) / $120 (Non- S.U.C.C.E.S.S. member) charge for training and Basic English language skills are required. Please note that the Chinese Help Line is located in Richmond, BC.
Our help lines services demonstrate equity, non-discrimination, and respect for the client's privacy, consent and choice. We also demonstrate cultural sensitivity towards diverse values and beliefs.
Objectives:
To promote the well-being of Chinese Canadian who are experiencing difficulties in accessing social service because of language and cultural barriers, and/or fear of social stigma
To build community capacity of the Chinese community through training and development of Help Lines volunteers.
Confidentiality:
We adhere to strict confidentiality for all client information except under the following circumstances: (1) under a court order; (2) suspected or known child abuse; or (3) danger to oneself or others.
Scope of Service:
Provides informational and emotional support to the Chinese community in Mandarin and Cantonese.
Operating Hours: 10 :00 a.m. – 10:00 p.m. (7 days a week)
