Two new indoor pools will begin construction this year as part of the Build Surrey program.
A 50-metre pool in Grandview Heights will be designed by Hughes Condon Marler Architects, the firm behind the new Hillcrest Olympic Centre and Killarney Community Pool in Vancouver. The facility will include a competition venue tank, a lifestyle pool, hot tub, steam and sauna rooms, and a fitness centre. It will be located on the north east corner of 24th Ave and 168 St, becoming the anchor of a community services hub, with potential future library and sports fields. Its budget is set at $50.9 million. This facility will relieve pressure on the dated South Surrey Indoor Pool.
A 52.5 metre pool will be added to the Guildford Recreation Centre, with design by Bing Thom Architects. It will include a competition venue tank, lifestyle pool, hot tub, steam and sauna rooms, as well as the renovation and expansion of existing fitness facilities. Its budget comes to $40.7 million.
