Donald Trump puts his brand on Vancouver tower project
--------------
Even though the Trump family was in Vancouver for less than 24 hours Wednesday, Donald’s third child Eric was happy to see a bit of the Pacific Northwest nature he had heard so much about.
Sitting at a rooftop press conference in downtown Vancouver, he laughed when he saw a bald eagle fly overhead.
“I was just laughing, obviously that would never happen in New York,” he said. “There is very much a true outdoor element to the city ... It’s an amazing place where we’re obviously excited to be.”
Vancouver has become the next stop for real estate tycoon and reality television icon Donald Trump’s international hotel chain.
Surrounded by three of his children — Eric, as well as older son Donald Jr. and daughter Ivanka — and the CEO of Vancouver-based developer Holborn Group, Joo Kim Tiah, Trump said the $360-million Trump International Hotel and Tower in Vancouver will be an architectural wonder and worth the hefty price.
After the press conference, in an interview on the 21st storey of the FortisBC Centre, the younger Trump said that Vancouver was “perfect for our brand.” He said the city “is obviously very high-end. If you just look at the price-per-square-foot that real estate is being sold at in this town, it will rival some of the big cities anywhere in the U.S. Quite frankly, it beats many of those cities.”
It was Eric Trump’s first time in Vancouver, and he said he’s looking forward to spending time here, both during the project’s construction, and once it’s up and running.
“I can’t wait to go up to Whistler,” he said. “My mom was on the Czech national ski team, so she had us on skis before we could really walk.”
The 63-storey twisting Trump Tower will be built by Holborn Group on city property that was once slated to become a Ritz-Carlton Hotel with residential condos above.
The tower will have luxury residences and guest rooms, as well as a night club, a champagne lounge, and a boutique spa.
The Trump family will be lending its brand, and will be operating the hotel, but the family will not be investing in the project’s development.
This will be the second Trump International Hotel and Tower to be built in Canada, following the one in Toronto, which opened last April.
“It will be the best building in Vancouver, there’s no question about it,” said Eric Trump. “I think it will be very, very sexy.”
