This magnificent emerald and diamond tiara belonged to Queen Victoria and can be seen worn by the Queen in the family portrait by Franz Winterhalter in 1846. The coronet was personally designed by Prince Albert for his wife and crafted in 1845 by the jeweller Joseph Kitching. The perfectly balanced design is a tribute to the taste and artistic skills of Prince Albert. There is no other known example in the history of jewels of a design by a consort for his Queen. . On view at Kensington Palace for the Victoria Revealed exhibition, after negotiations by Sotheby’s Tax and Heritage.
