Former resident here. I'd just like to put in my 2 bits that this article is BS. This strata is no different than any other, most people get along just fine, but there are a few residents that can't seem to get along with each other. Either they can't respect their neighbour's right to privacy, or they can't tolerate event the slightest noise from their neighbours. This is a wood frame building, so you can occasionally here the neighbour upstairs Not a big deal. Some people complain to strata rather than talking to their neighbours directly (note that the floors are security controlled so you *can't* just walk upstairs and knock on your neighbours door), and strata has a responsibility to deal with persistent complaints. The letter seems perfectly reasonable to me (other than training your dog to not bark!). Facebook is actually a contributor to the problem here, because a lot of the residents resort to passive-aggressive complaining on their facebook page rather than doing something constructive. From my personal experience the strata council and property manager are doing a great job managing this complex.

This article reversely shows exactly why some condo residents (and also the reporter, Eric Zimmer) need to get educated on Strata bylaws and regulations. You are provided with all these documents before buying or renting the condo. However, strata bylaws are nothing more than common sense and for YOU to respect your neighbours and peace, quiet and cleanness of the shared property. A quiet and clean building is desirable for everyone, but your kids screaming and running around and dogs barking nonstop bothers 10 other residents. Be mindful, read the documents before moving in, attend your AGM, vote for your council or be part of it as the council selects the property management and pays for them.I feel I should’ve been paid for this article, not the author!!
