What does YVR stand for?

YVR is Vancouver International Airport's designator or code. The world's airports have three-letter designators, as established by the International Air Transport Association (IATA). These codes are used by airlines and pilots to identify airports. They are also used in timetables, baggage tags, tickets, advertisements, Airline and Global Reservation Systems. In some cases, the connection is obvious - LAX is Los Angeles International Airport - while others seemingly bear no relation to the airport or city - YYZ is Toronto Pearson International Airport. However, there is one common link among Canada's International airport designators: they all begin with the letter Y.

还是没有回答楼主的问题，为什么叫YVR呢？加拿大为什么就分到Y打头的呢？

IATA分到后来连数字都要上了，英文字母用光了，我记得海南还是哪里一个小机场就是数字开头的。

这里还有不少行家呀。。。

十几年前我考过IATA的证书。还是上海第一批呢。全世界几百个城市和机场的代码都背过。现在还能记得不少。

NYC，JFK，LGA，EWR...
