Happily forever?
Such extravagant claims are not in heaven’s gift-
Much less earth’s, where love is chanceful as weather:
Say they were married, and lived
Tell me his Marriage vow.
Not the church responses,

let me be a good to her, all my heart owns or wants is
Staked on this hazardous vows.’
When was the marriage sealed?
One day the strange creature
He loved was missing; he found her, concealed
in a coign of, wearing the secret stamp of his nature.
So matings, if ever, are sealed.
How did the marriage end?
Some marriages die not.
The government goes into exile; then
the underground struggle is on, whose fighters fly not
Even at the bitter end.
What is the marriage of two?
The loss of one
By wounds or abdication: a true
Surrender mocked, an unwished victory won:
Rose, desert-mirade too.

既然是社会最小的单位那么也具有社会的共性。缺乏判断力的人建立的婚姻自然要整天打架。

去世于1972年的塞西尔·戴·刘易斯在1968年获颁为英国桂冠诗人，更大名鼎鼎的是他的儿子──凭借主演《林肯》，丹尼尔·戴·刘易斯去年成就了三夺奥斯卡影帝的伟业。尽管将电影比作诗歌是一种褒奖，在今天，真正的诗歌无法拥有电影的光彩。当影帝捐赠父亲的手稿、书信时，连奥登这样的通信者，都被认为是沾了小金人的光。
就算这样，仍有影像企及不到的地方，在那里，诗歌散发出毒辣、动人的光。一首写出婚姻残酷的诗歌比写出爱情甜蜜的诗歌更宝贵，没错，婚姻正是一个危险盟誓，两个人的无限接近，也就是无限远离，而远离还不是最糟的。两性间的永恒战争以结婚为最惨烈的战场，体现为一场场运动战、游击战、持久战、地下斗争。有一天也许两败俱伤，分崩离析；有一天也许风平浪静，那意味其中一人的彻底沦陷、投降，失去了自己，成为失踪的陌生人。

诗人刘易斯从一而终，与女演员妻子生下日后的影帝；影帝刘易斯结了两次婚，生下一堆儿女。他们冷暖自知，都证明了即便在诗中达到某种境界，对现实生活也于事无补，更不能代代传承。在看不见的硝烟中，战争与和平循环往复，不会终止，犹如歌坛天后结婚、离婚、再结婚、再离婚，跟过往的恋人复合，仍不能确定是否最后一站。
比这一切更重要的，是诗歌如何点石成金。在原文、译文中，从起点到过程，一行行迫近、回旋、娓娓道来又嗄然而止，将日常的痛楚化作优雅，将严酷铸炼为坚硬的雕塑，发出铿锵的声响，它使人相信，即便生活乃至婚姻是无望的，诗歌仍构成一种拯救，让我们得到幸运的敲打。
最后补充有关又无关的八卦：1989 年，影星刘易斯在伦敦出演舞台剧《哈姆雷特》，当时他处于精神困扰，以至于在哈姆雷特和父亲亡魂相遇的剧情中，感觉到自己真在和已故的诗人父亲对话，不慎失足跌落舞台。从此，他再也没登上戏剧舞台。

性格强的人要找个性格弱的人，才会一人发号施令，一人认真执行，如果是性格都很强的人在一起，迟早出问题。凌同学你应该是属于性格很强的人（恕我冒昧评价）。
